Arctic exceeds 40 million refrigerators produced at its Găești factory (press release)

Arctic, the Romanian household appliance market leader and one of the main contributors to the local economy, marks the production of 40,000,000 refrigerators at its factory in GăeÈ™ti, DâmboviÈ›a. Following Arçelik’s investments, totaling over 154 million euros, the GăeÈ™ti refrigerator factory is currently the largest home appliance factory in continental Europe, with a production capacity of 2, 9 million units per year and nearly 5,000 employees.

The GăeÈ™ti factory manufactures 75 main products and 700 by-products for both the local market and consumers in 80 countries – 37 in Europe and 43 on other continents. Thanks to their high degree of reliability and quality, Arctic refrigerators made in Romania are very popular in countries like Turkey, Italy, United Kingdom, Germany, France or Poland. Thus, the number of units shipped abroad has steadily increased, reaching 84% of annual production. In order to meet growing demand and ever-changing customer expectations, Arctic is constantly investing in new technologies. In 2021, the company allocated 10 million euros for the modernization of the GăeÈ™ti factory, investments aimed at increasing efficiency through digitization, especially when it comes to improving automation and better quality control. Arctic also focuses on sustainability, implementing solutions to reduce waste production, minimize waste, increase recycling and support a circular economy.

“We are extremely proud of this new achievement, made possible by the entire Arctic Găești team. For us, the 40 million refrigerators produced in Romania mean more than just a number. They represent the Romanian quality appreciated all over the world, support for the national economy and the creation of new jobs. At the same time, the appreciation that the Arctic brand enjoys among Romanians honors us. We will continue to invest in Romania, given our objective of making it a regional production hub, and we are committed to continuing these results while integrating our vision and mission of sustainable development. Our goal is to redefine manufacturing processes in accordance with the principles of circularity, using natural resources responsibly, ”said Arctic Managing Director, Murat Büyükerk (in the opening image).

The performance of the GăeÈ™ti factory determined the expansion of the Arçelik group’s operations in Romania, leading to the construction, from scratch, of a new home appliance factory in Ulmi, DâmboviÈ›a County. After a total investment of 153 million euros, the Arctic washing machine plant in Ulmi, which started production at the end of 2019, incorporates the latest technologies, being the only Industry 4.0 production unit in Romania and one of the few in Europe. With the opening of the second production line, the plant will reach a capacity of 2.2 million washing machines per year.

Arctic, the Romanian home appliance market leader, is one of the strongest companies in Romania and at the same time one of its most important employers and exporters. With more than 5,500 employees, the company exports 84% of total production to more than 80 countries.

With a history of half a century, Arctic has been part of the Arçelik group since 2002, a period during which its turnover and production capacity increased considerably.

The company owns the largest home appliance factory in continental Europe, the Gaesti unit producing 40 million refrigerators to date. It also owns the only Industry 4.0 factory in Romania and one of the few in Europe, Ulmi Washing Machine Factory, Dambovita, with a production capacity of 2.2 million units per year, once the finalized investment.
