B&B owner triumphs in Channel 4 TV show
The show sees four bed and breakfast owners staying at each other’s establishments and voting each business on value for money, all while trying to prove theirs is the best.
David Coulam, owner of Woodhall’s Village Limit, appeared in the latest episode, which saw him battle other B&B owners from Yarm to Tees Valley, Luxborough near Minehead and Rhaeadr, Powys.
During his time on the show, David describes his attention to detail and his choice to serve breakfast baskets to guests to give them the option of dining in their rooms.
Guests gave Village Limits excellent reviews, describing the beds as firm and “really comfy”, the bathrooms “immaculate” – although one of the other contestants described one of the colorfully decorated bedrooms. vivid like quite “Willy Wonka”.
The decor of the B&B was also praised, describing it as “extremely modern, reflecting David’s personality”.
The show was filmed over two weeks in May 2021 during the coronavirus pandemic, although care was taken to make it look like it was taken during a non-Covid period. As part of the contest, each host must suggest a nearby attraction for guests to try, and David chose Boston’s Bubblecar Museum for all three sets of guests. The original attraction saw guests try their hand at sitting inside one of the vehicles and touring the museum.
David said: “I personally love the Bubblecar museum, I’ve been going there for years – it reminds me of my grandma’s kitchen! It was great to promote a local attraction in the show.
David was described by the contestants as a “really nice, down-to-earth genuine guy” by the other contestants, and Village Limits received the highest marks to win the title.
He said: “I didn’t think I would win at all, when one of the others got two top marks I thought she would win.
“I’m a huge fan of the show and to have won is absolutely insane. Filming was an amazing experience and hopefully brought people to the area to show what we have to offer.
