Over 150,000 GE refrigerators recalled due to fall hazard
MORE than 150,000 refrigerators sold at Best Buy, Home Depot and Lowe’s have been recalled.
According to the Consumer Product Safety Commission, the recall involves GE’s freestanding refrigerators.
Faulty fridge freezer drawer handles create a safety hazard.
The freezer drawer is French door style and pulls out from the bottom.
GE has received a total of 71 reports of freezer drawer handle detachment.
Of the 71 reports, 37 resulted in injuries, including three serious injuries from a fall.
The refrigerators were sold between February 2020 and January 2022 at:
- best buy
- Home deposit
Which models have been impacted?
This recall involves six models.
The brand name, model and serial number of each appliance are printed on the top left side of the refrigerator door.

What if you have one?
About 155,000 were sold in the United States and about 2,300 were sold in Canada.
The recall urges customers to contact GE Appliances to determine if their appliance is part of the recall.
If you purchased one of the defective models, you can schedule a free in-home service call.
During the visit, GE will have the freezer handle reinstalled.
GE is also contacting known customers directly.
