TV ratings: Seven Network takes top TV spot for 2021

Shortly after winning in the 2021 TV audience survey year, Seven Network took the top spot in TV for the calendar year.

Seven delivered more No.1 results than any other network in 2021, with the most watched shows in Australia. The network takes several top spots in the TV landscape including Best Sporting Event, Regular Series, Entertainment Show, News Show, Breakfast Show, Australian Drama, Daily Quiz, TV Show lifestyle and a morning show.

With a 39.6 percent commercial audience share of total people, the network was a clear winner, also taking the crown among people aged 16 to 39 and under 50.

Seven was the only network to increase its audience share with total people, 25 to 54, 16 to 39 and under 50 in 2021.

The most-watched event on the network was the postponement of the Tokyo 2020 Olympics, which saw 21 million Australians tune into Seven for live, free and exclusive coverage throughout the 17 days.

Seven West Media chief executive and chief executive James Warburton said the Games were “the biggest television and streaming event in Australian history.”

The AFL Grand Final, held here in Perth at Optus Stadium on September 25, drew 4.1 million spectators.

Mr Warburton was very pleased with the 2021 result.

Another attraction for viewers and the network was the final season of The Voice which reached the magical million viewers every night throughout the 2021 season.

The series took first place in regular series and entertainment programming with 2.11 million total national audiences.

The series will return later this year with The Voice Generations plus another standard season of The Voice, with judges Keith Urban, Jessica Mauboy, Rita Ora and Guy Sebastian returning to the Big Red Chair.

Other big winners in the network were 7News which took first place in the news program, Sunrise won the # 1 breakfast show, Home & Away the # 1 Australian drama, The Chase Australia the best daily quiz, Better Homes and Gardens the best lifestyle show, and The Morning Show the best morning show.

Seven’s director of network programming Angus Ross promises another great year for viewers with the network “determined to keep the crown in 2022”.
