Vera Stewart turns 10 on television; His weekly column will begin on November 4 in The Augusta Press

Most Augustians know his name.

Whether they know Vera Stewart from her coffee, her cookbook, her appearance on Food Network (in which she beat chef Bobby Flay in a carrot cake fight) or her own TV show, Stewart is a familiar name.

A weekly column highlighting his TV show will be published in The Augusta Press from November 4.

“The Very Vera Show” celebrates its 10e airing season this year.

His show took place after defeating Flay in his “Throwdown With Bobby Flay”.

The producers wanted to try a few episodes and see what happened, but Stewart said she knew she would have an entire season.

Now, the syndicated show is in 36 metro markets across 16 states, and this season, she’s filming it in the kitchen of her Wheeler Road office.

Stewart graduated from the University of Georgia with a home economics degree in 1974 and taught high school for four years before becoming a mom.

“Motherhood brought Vera out of the classroom and home, where her catering business was born,” according to her biography.

His business started to boom in the mid-1990s.

She shipped her first cake in 1993, and in 1995 someone from Southern Living Magazine tasted one of her cakes and featured it in the magazine. Within 10 days of the article’s publication, Stewart had sold a cake in every state.

In April 2018, she published “The VeryVera Cookbook: Recipes from my Table”, which contains recipes for each product she has sold by mail order and in her cafe. “The VeryVera Cookbook” has garnered media attention from “Taste of the South”, “Relish” and “Local Palate” magazines, Reese Witherspoon’s Draper James blog and many other online outlets, “said A press release.

During the pandemic, it added 10 more TV markets.

Stewart said his TV show was more than a cooking show; it’s a lifestyle show, airing locally on WJBF-TV at 12:30 p.m. Thursday and 7:30 p.m. Saturday, except during the college football season when it is rebroadcast during a time slot on Sundays. Check local listings as this may change.

The first column will feature recipes from “Soup, Salad and Sandwich”, Episode 7 of Season 10. Items featured include its basil and roasted tomato soup, tomato vinaigrette and a sophisticated ham sandwich.

Also this season, Stewart is set to publish his next cookbook, “Occasions”.
